Description:
Gnomes are not born like other life forms, instead they are an artificial life form created by other gnomes in a process known as Metagenesis Hermetica. This process requires various material and magical components, most notoriously are the obsidian “cast” used to house the body, the Argentum Vitae or ‘quick blood’ - an artificial silvery blood, and the Lapis Mnemona or ‘Memory stone’ - A cloudy blue crystal in placed below the heart of every gnome. It is believed that a gnome’s Memory Stone contains the memories of all of its previous owners.
Because of the nature of this ritual, gnomes are somewhat rare across the world, while lacking family bonds they stick together by forming small groups or communes. Gnomes seem to not value their own lives particularly highly, but the loss of a Memory Stone is devastating to them. understandably the particular recipe for the Metagenesis Hermetica is kept secret from the other races of the world, and to some extent every gnome instinctively has this knowledge.
Appearance:
- Height between 3 to 4 feet tall.
- Pale or porcelain skin, sometimes silvery or with hints of blue, due to their silver blood.
- Practically any hair colour, Blues, greens pinks etc.
- Elongated elf-like ears.
Traits:
- Gnomes are often very driven, having a sense of purpose of duty to fulfil.
- Some Gnomes lose their sense of purpose over time however.
- They are highly industrious, having an uncanny knack for invention.
- For this reason they make up a large portion of the Daethian empires research and arcane engineering personnel.
